About The idea of this piece and its implementation are worlds apart. The idea of obsession columns came as I lay in bed and looked up at the wall. The shadow layed out a geometry that not only was I familiar with, but also had become fond of. I quickly wanted to lay out 5 works where all pieces were the same. Originally painted in oil, and displeased, I waited painfully for the first piece to dry so I could re-create it. The thought of playing with perspectives caught my imagination, and before long a meticulously measured 'building' which is optically confrontational emerged. Yellow Lines that extend through the cornered building shape, and inlayed steel bars "block" what should be an easy 3 dimensional visual. I always find this work difficult to look at for a long time. |
